A shisaa is a mythical dragon / dog from Okinawa mythology.
The shisaa, or lion dog, is an Okinawan cultural artifact. In magic typology, they might be also be classified as gargoyle beasts. They are tradicionally used to ward off evil spirits.

In the PlayStation 2 game Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, the aeon Yojimbo had a shisaa, Daigoro, as his companion. Yuna gains a similar shisaa, Kogoro, as her animal partner with the Trainer dressphere.
The Japanese kaiju King Caesar (appearing in two films) was based on the shisaa.
In the manga and anime Azumanga Daioh Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga points out a lot of shisaas on their trip to Okinawa.
