Shire Books

Shire Books are published by Shire Publications Ltd, a book publishing company based in Oxford, England. Founded in 1962 by John Rotheroe, the company was for many years based in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. In 2007 the company was acquired by Oxford-based military history publisher Osprey and now operates from their offices.

Shire is well known for its concise, illustrated books on sometimes quirky and eccentric subjects. Most relate to social history, architecture or antiques, with additional ranges on archaeology and Egyptology.
