Shirase (しらせ) is a large Japanese icebreaker operated by the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force. Her hull number is AGB-5002.
Shirase was commissioned in 1982 for the Antarctic expedition, replacing its predecessor Fuji. She can move through up to 1.5 meters of ice at 3 knots.
