[edit] Image:Mohammad Barakeh.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mohammad Barakeh.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 17:41, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox Senator/dead

A template you created, Template:Infobox Senator/dead, has been marked for deletion as a deprecated and orphaned template. If, after 14 days, there has been no objection, the template will be deleted. If you wish to object to its deletion, please list your objection here and feel free to remove the {{deprecated}} tag from the template. If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. --MZMcBride 21:59, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Libertarianpartylogo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Libertarianpartylogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:39, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 2007 Arbcom Election

I've fully endorsed five candidates, one for each open slot:

  1. User:FayssalF (Voting)
  2. User:FT2 (Voting)‎‎
  3. User:Newyorkbrad (Voting)‎
  4. User:Raul654 (Voting)‎
  5. User:Sam Blacketer (Voting)‎

I also lent a vote of moral support to User:Giano II's candidacy. Shem(talk) 10:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)‎

I just wanted to clarify my stance re: FayssalF. I think FayssalF is a great editor - I'm impressed by his contributions, I liked his candidate statement, and I think having a non-Western voice on the committee would be a big improvement. For those reasons, I initially supported his candidacy. I changed my vote, however, when some of the answers he gave to questions were brought to my attention. As an editor, he's undoubtedly very experienced. As a prospective arbitrator, however, his answers to a number of questions that he really lacks clue about the arbitration process in general. As such, I reluctantly changed my vote to oppose. I'm sorry that this has caused you to retract your endorsement of my candidacy, but I simply felt that I could not continue to support FayssalF in light of his answers. [edit] Statement regarding Durova/!! matter

FYI, I am alerting user's who have voted to oppose based on my comments about the Durova matter that I have written a longer statement regarding my views on the matter which I hope clarifies a few points of apparent misunderstanding. See User:JoshuaZ/Statement regarding Durova and !!. Thanks. JoshuaZ (talk) 02:05, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Issam Makhoul.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 18:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Freestateprojectlogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Freestateprojectlogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 20:33, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for comment

FWIW Shem, there is a A POLL (link) of contributors, over on the Obama Wikipedia-biography talk page, concerning what details to add/not to add to the article. The input of your expertise is requested, if possible. (Incidentally, the poll itself (eight various statements in a spectrum, to choose from among the one most appropriate for the article) is here: Talk:Barack Obama#Bill Ayers. And the place to record any vote would be here: Talk:Barack Obama#!Votes (please move your votes to this section if they arent already and bolden them)) — Justmeherenow (   ) 17:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Thx. — Justmeherenow (   ) 17:49, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for your opinion

Hi, please !vote on the language in my article Please Vote For Change We Can Believe In Or Even No Change at Obama Article
Requesting your final opinion on the Bill Ayers language
  • You previously !voted (here) on what language to use at the Barack Obama page. We're trying to get a consensus now. Please take another look at how the discussion has progressed (especially here) and consider what option might make the best consensus, then !vote again at Talk:Barack Obama#Call the question after detailed discussion: Option 3 or not?. Please keep in mind the discussion has been long, so if you can accept what seems to be a likely option, please do. This is one of Wikipedia's most prominent articles. Thank you. Noroton (talk) 23:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Shem, would you please reformat your edit at timestamp 17:29, 7 June 2008 -- the one within the Option 1 & 2 section of the latest tally? I only ask because it screws up the numbering if any subsequent votes come up on your side. If you put your comment in one paragraph, it would set things right. An alternative would be to move the comment to a new comment section below the tally where discussion could continue (people can't really respond to your comment within the tally without further screwing it up). As with Scjessey's tally section earlier, I'm trying to present a clear spot where people can see the "lay of the land" and then decide whether they want to compromise to reach a consensus. The fact that you support Option 1 means that your comment there, while not technically a !vote, does actually help anyone trying to figure out how much support that option has, so I have no objection to it. If nothing else, there's an implicit consensus on the page to use the format I came up with (I'm more than willing to change it if a number of people want that). I think it might be a good idea if we set up a subsection or section below the tally for further discussion. Thanks for being among the saner voices in this discussion. [edit] 3.99 GPA

An old blog post of mine describes how I got an A- in an English class. It turned out to be the only blemish on an otherwise perfect record. I was pissed. I was docked 10% from my final exam paper for putting a comma the wrong side of some double quotes (giving me 90%), and it turned out to be the difference between the A- and the A. -- Scjessey (talk) 20:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I'd say that misplaced comma was good for your soul, although it was a rather harsh punishment... Tvoz/talk 20:42, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Refactored

I refactored a comment that I made in responding to you at Talk:Barack Obama. As I thought about it later, I realised I was a bit over the top, and I shouldn't have said that. I apologize. I think there are sincere differences of opinion over including Ayers, and while I think you're completely wrong, I don't think you've given anybody reason to doubt your sincerity. I stand by my other comments in that paragraph, and I hope you consider them. Noroton (talk) 03:00, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Barack Obama

You placed your "agreed answer" between Kossack's remark and my responce to it. Please move it to another place you'd like. Thanks, --Floridianed (talk) 00:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your comment about breaking the peace I think it's 3 editors - life.temp as well. Kossack4Truth's edit could arguably be a mistake and not deliberately misleading. Anyway, as much as I appreciate your playing traffic cop and hope the truce you're brokering in the edit war will hold, I think you need to be careful not to get into the fray. Too many reverts and you yourself might be perceived as a participant rather than a helper. We'll seee. Anyway, workerbee violated 3RR with the last edit so I'm reporting that at 3RR and AN/I - that's probably more effective than anything else. Tks, Wikidemo (talk) 18:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Just that you know, I placed a warning on Workerbee's talk page for his recent change. --Floridianed (talk) 18:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I don't think admins have an easy job of trying to deal with this, both in sorting it out and trying to do something to prevent it from continuing, but I wish more of them would join MastCell and Ncmvocalist in looking at it. After a while, though, noninvolvement is going to imply consent. I think this is the third situation this year that caused me to post at AN/I. I'm much, much happier just editing content pages.
