[edit] Contrast with Psyco
An anonymous editor has played up the "N times faster than Psyco" claim quite a bit. This claim is made by the creator of ShedSkin on his personal web site, but that just doesn't seem like a solid citation by itself.
I'm very worried about putting such claims in without any supporting evidence whatsoever, especially given their prima facie implausibility. For a lot of cases, Psyco gets pretty darn close to "as fast as the hardware goes" (i.e. C speed, or occasionally even faster). Of course, in other cases, Psyco falls down and does nothing but eat memory. Still, that doesn't generically leave room for N-times faster.
The anon in an edit history comment claimed that there was "proof" because the 27 programs provided to test ShedSkin were downloadable. They are indeed, but there is incomplete information there on hardware configuration, program versions for ShedSkin/Psyco/CPython, etc. I'm sure Mark Dufour really did run some tests, but to advance a controversial claim here, it should either be published by someone independent, or at the least have precisely described procedures for replicating the test. [edit] Wikipedia:Conflict of interest
I am wondering whether User:85.145.53.9 is the same person as Mark Dufour (creator of Shed Skin). If so, I'd really recommend reading WP:COI. Most of the edits made by that IP address have read much too much as interested arguments in favor of Shed Skin, rather than as neutral description. It comes close to reading like advertisement even. The creators of project are not per se prohibited from editing articles about them, but a great deal of care is appropriate... warranted, I think, by the history of this article. If the project is encyclopedic, disinterested third parties will write fine, neutral articles about it. Wikipedia isn't here for advocacy. LotLE×talk 23:10, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
