[edit] Summary

Sheet pile was used by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractors to stem the flow of water from Lake Ponchartrain into the 17th Street Canal, New Orleans. The thick sheets, corrugated for added strength, were driven into the canal's floor by crane-mounted pile drivers. Once the canal is unwatered to repair existing pumps alongside it, the sheet piling will be removed by cranes to allow water pumped from the area to flow through the canal into the lake.
