Sociolinguistics research in India
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the Sociolinguistics research in India article has been substantially improved since you !voted in the AfD. If you have time to take a look and comment again on the AfD that'd be great. Thanks! --Zeborah 06:20, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

AfD on Thomas Verstraeten
Hi - thanks for your comment - I'm definitely flattered, but you're welcome to disagree with me. :) I elaborated in more depth at the AfD. Verstraeten's research actually supports the mainstream view that there is no apparent connection between thimerosal and autism, but his Wikipedia article is a WP:COATRACK for questionable sources that bash him and his work. My feeling was that if you remove all the questionable, unreliably sourced, BLP-violating material, then there would be nothing left to write an independent article with (though Verstraeten's research certainly warrants mention in the larger articles on autism and thimerosal). But that's just my 2 cents. I have too much respect for you for me to get offended if you disagree :) MastCell Talk 20:35, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Ban Ki-moon
Hi Shalom, thanks again for taking the time to read and comment at Wikipedia:Peer review/Ban Ki-moon. I wanted to leave a message on your talk page because I ended up making some pretty big changes to the article. Instead of the suggestion of making criticism a level 2== section, I integrated criticism throughout the article where it was relevant. (I know, I ask for a peer review and then disregard the suggestions, sorry!! That's why I wanted to follow up here.) Do you think this works? My hope is that future developments can be tacked onto the end of whatever section they apply to, with criticism duly noted when it arises. Do you think this will work going forward? Thanks again for your attention -- and if you don't have the time to delve back into 40kb on the United Nations I totally understand (my eyes are bleeding after reading this article too much!) --JayHenry 05:37, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Looks good. I like your approach of spreading out the criticism for each issue: it works well and makes the article readable. Shalom Hello 12:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

This, Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection#.7B.7Bla.7CLa_Salle_Institute.7D.7D is driving me to self-nom at WP:RfA. Bearian 21:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

YourLord case
Thanks for reviewing Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/YourLord. The report is made from months-old memories, so I couldn't quite put together a coherent case with current data. I was feeling bad for the poor admin who had to figure it all out. / edg ☺ ★ 20:17, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the message. I'm not an admin, but I do sockpuppet investigations because I find them interesting and most admins don't really care about them. I was not interested in whether these IPs were actually YourLord - that's hard to figure out - but rather I monitored the recent edits, and I found that many of them were problematic. Also, as you noted, YourLord's apparent comments seem to point to his own guilt. Shalom Hello 20:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- I agree it's not interesting. I was just saying that's some good work you're doing. / edg ☺ ★ 20:57, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
For the record, Shalom darling I stated that the suspected sockpuppets were not me because I didn't want people thinking they were. Notice that only two of them were me and I actually admitted that they were. Now if I'm the dishonest scoundrel that you#re making me out to be, why would I do that? Furthermore I am not a sockpuppet. A sockpuppet is a person who maintains several ccounts simultaneously. I maintain no accounts. I just per chance have two IP addresses. Believe what you will. And just to set the record straight I am not actually a comic book fan. I just have an interest in fantasy and science-fiction among other things. I don't want you thinking I'm some sort of comic book geek. In any case I'm going to stop editing now until my block is annulled if ever so this shall be my last edit. Cheerio.

- I am unable to respond at User talk:YourLord because it is protected: probably one too many requests for unblock. To respond to one of your points: there is no difference between maintaining two named accounts, or one named account and one IP address, or two IP addresses. Sock puppet activity involves using one account secretly to advance the agenda of a second account, either by vandalism or 3RR, or using one "good hand" account and a second "bad hand" account simultaneously. I personally engaged in "good hand, bad hand" sock puppetry earlier in my wiki career, but I have reformed, and now I look for violators. I'm not saying with certainty which accounts you used or didn't used (nobody seems to care anymore), but if you used IP addresses, that doesn't excuse disruptive edits. Shalom Hello 18:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually my page is protected because Gravitan is a drama-queen. I don't try to make disruptive edits. When I do, I'm actually trying to help it's just that I inadvertantly make things worse. As I have said I'm not going to do any further editing from either of my IP addresses (not including this conversation with you) until I'm unblocked. Once (and indeed if) I am unblocked I plan on doing my best to become a more conscientious editor and regaining what respect I'm afraid I wasn't aware that maintaining two IP addresses was considered sockpuppetry so I'm very sorry about that.

Chess translations
Good evening! Feel free to ask me if you need help (please also leave a note on german discussion page since I'm more often on de; [1]). Many thanks for your work! --Constructor 19:54, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, since you want me to reply here, I do so. We don't have a WikiProject but we have an archive page with all chess pages. See here: Portal:Schach/Archiv. This was manually extracted from the games portal when we started to work on chess and some categorys were revised so they are fully included. It's chess opening (+gambits), computer chess, chess literature, chess organisation, chess endgame and chess (without sub-categorys). On other categorys, something may be missing in the archive, especially very old articles. See Kategorie:Schach for a comprehensive list.
- The reason why we have more chess articles may just be motivation. When we founded the chess portal (way back in mid-2006) I started to work more on chess articles (my best ones so far being Norman Macleod and Thomas Rayner Dawson, I think). Also, I have lots of sources available (however, these are not all available for everyone - those that are include the EG archive and EBUR archive) so I am able to write this. Still, sometimes I just stumble upon something and write about it as it was yesterday with Paul Farago in EG 26.
- About your list. The full name of Bent is Charles Michael Bent. See here for such information. In german WP we have Harold van der Heijden, David Gurgenidze, Filip Semyonovich Bondarenko, Leonid Kubbel, Vladimir Akimovich Bron and Vladimir Aleksandrovich Korolkov.
- Ok, I should stop now before this becomes a book. :-) --Best regards, Constructor 09:46, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

RFA - thanks, but I'll pass
I appreciate your consideration, but at this time I am not interested in being an admin. I've been asked before, and I appreciate the kind remarks from folks, but right now I have my hands full with stuff outside WP. First, thanks for thinking I'd make a good Admin --it's definitely a compliment! After taking a few minutes to consider, I'd like to take you up on your offer of nomination. Even if the nom doesn't succeed, I'd learn some areas for improvement. Again, thanks.--Fabrictramp 14:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Re:RFA?
Thank you very much for the offer :) But I'm afraid I'll have to decline, for now... I've failed a previous RfA and I feel that some more editing would be needed in order to fully meet with all the requirements of the opposers. I'm considering adminship for some time later in the near future, maybe by the very end of the year; I feel I'll be ready by then. By the way, happy Shalom's Day! ♠TomasBat 15:25, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Dear Shalom
My dear Shalom, I figured that, with Rosh Hashana just around the corner, there was little chance that you would get to see your own special dedication at my userpage. Yet, I certainly felt, and feel still, that it was but the least I could do, a modest gift to let you know, all your hard work and cheerfulness need to be recognized. Seeing you a lot around, I've noticed many, many times your wonderful virtues; and what's best that letting someone as dedicated as you know, your work has not gone unnoticed? So I'll leave you know, with a couple of short thoughts: one, thank you for all you do, my friend! And second... you have mail! :) Love, Phaedriel - 22:03, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Adminship
While I am more than grateful for your considering me for the possibility, I'm not entirely sure that I'm cut out for the job. A lot of the decisions that I think the admins make are more or less permanent ones, and I have reservations about putting myself in that position regarding virtually anything. Also, right now, I think that trying to complete the revision to the directory and maybe some small other work thereafter might suffer were I to distract myself even further with that process. I might be a bit more open to it a bit later though, when this is done. John Carter 21:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Question about Robert M. Hensel

I recently added information about my husband on Wikipedia, and now it is being consider for delection. Could you please be kind enough to help me prevent this from happening. I have tried adding information about him in the past and evertime it has been deleted.I would be so greatful if you could help me in any way.

Nanik Atak
Hello. I strongly contest the flagging of the article for rapid deletion because it's based on the significance/importance issue and I sincerely do not agree with the your judgement.
Being unsigned and not recognized and/or followed by mass audiences does not necessarily lead to conclusion that the article about the so called band needs deletion and the band is insignificant or unimportant to be written an article about.
Furthermore I also can base my objection upon the fact that you are not from Turkey and supposedly not so familiar with the Turkish music market. Otherwise you would know that the band has recently released a music video as a debut to be broadcasted on major music channels including MTV Tr, and is on the air in several national networks.
There are also many articles about various Turkish music figures from various genres in Wikipedia and not all of them are "significant" as outlined by your apprehension of significance. If significance/importance is based on record sales or the numbers of followers or being a celebrity then I can name names of many bands that have articles about them and are not "significant" enough to be on Wikipedia. Or Turkish bands that are not significant to the general population of Wikipedia users around the world.
If this band had an album and thousands of followers, would that be significant enough to have an in Wikipedia?
Kind regards.

Thanks very much for the compliments and helpful suggestions. I'm pretty happy with my level of contributions to Wikipedia as is. I'm still uncomfortable with the situations I find myself involved in because of my work with WP:WPSPAM and the ongoing issues related to the Barrett v. Rosenthal. I wish I had more time for COIN though. --Ronz 23:41, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Shalom!
I've noticed you're taking part in WP:AFC lately, and that's awesome, always nice to have another editor there to look over stuff! I'd like to let you know that submissions that are blank, or otherwise not likely to be accepted, aren't generally removed, but are simply closed as declined. Even things with personal attacks or copyvio, we usually just remove the offending portion, and close it as declined. Also, (and if you know all of this already, feel free to ignore me and remove this if you wish) if you need, for reference, the various templates for accepting and declining can be found here. Anyway, I'm super happy to see you at AFC, and look forward to bumping into you there often! (And again, I hope you aren't offended that I've brought this to you, as I realize you're quite experienced, and possibly know this already). Ariel♥Gold 03:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Please unblock me
I'm not VinceB, so please unblock me. I had to create that account to be able to communicate with you only, but unlike VinceB, I have a fix IP address. I respected Wikipedia policies, so I don't understand why you had to immediately indef(!) block me without at least having a chance to email you. You really think that a Hungarian chauvinist would protect[2] the Israel page from real vandalism and ask for unblocking of an Israeli user (User talk:Nishkid64#Okedem block)? Okedem even thanked me for that (User talk:Okedem#3RR Violation). I wanted to protect him, because Tegwarrior was also acting in bad faith, just like some other users.
That was not Tankred's first accusation with bad intention (see Checkuser) and now he is angry, because I asked for an RFC on including the Benes decrees in the article Slovakia in which he is involved (see his comments at Talk:Slovakia).
Please at least give me your email address or let my REAL account communicate with you so I can get rid of this fake account. That is not me. If I was VinceB, don't you think I'd just create another sockpuppet instead of fighting for an account? Frankly, it's pretty bizarre and strange when you are being accused of being someone you are not. Everytime Tankred does not like someone's editing, he accuses him of being VinceB.
