Talk:Shane Sanders
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Space For Music label is a notable independent label started in 1995 by ambient guitarist and space music pioneer Tony Gerber whose works have appeared in the Tom Cruise film Vanilla Sky (as part of the band Spacecraft) as well as airplay on national programs such as Hearts of Space, Echoes (radio program), and Musical Starstreams.
Other notable artists with releases on the Space for Music label are ambient pioneer Robert Rich, Ma Ja Le, Tom Shinness, Ian Boddy, Spacecraft, and Brannan Lane. Northamerican 21:58, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Assuming Space for Music qualifies as a notable label, WP:MUSIC asks for two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels. According to SfM's website, Sanders appears to have one album, "Jellyfish Emperor". Fan-1967 21:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
There are three full albums available from Shane Sanders in addition to work included on the internationally distributed Musicians for Asia charity CD compilation. If this particular WP:MUSIC criteria/objection concerning multiple major label releases is adhered to strictly, it would also inhibit the inclusion of such artists as Frank Zappa who also released independently after a time. Some artists such as Ani Difranco never release on a major label. Quality should be the criteria moreso than the source of the release.
The overall quality of the works, including the collaborative connections of highly regarded musicians in relation to the composer, should also be a factor. Venus Hum, a collaborative partner with Shane Sanders, has appeared on The Tonight Show performing with Blue Man Group in addition to several major label releases of their own. They have also collaborated with television's Alias, Lost, and Felicity creator, J.J. Abrams. Claire Fitch, another collaborative partner and also a cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, also releases independent and best-selling works in a similar genre to Sanders. - But Zappa and Difranceo easily meet other aspects of the notability criteria. A musician doesn't have to meet all of them, just one. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:18, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Sanders has charted at #1 on Broadjam.com, a very well known music portal. In addition to the music releases, Sanders also appears to own and operate a sample distribution site for other composers: SampleSquad.com. There seems to be some level of consistent credibility for this artist. Will have to do research on the visual art side of things and edit the entry. This may take a few days.
Given the entry revisions, how is Sanders less notable than this musician: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Krier Northamerican 22:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- He's not less notable as far as I can tell (and I've tagged that article for proposed deletion as well). It seems like an article about a non-notable or "up-and-coming" band is added to Wikipedia every minute; many of them get speedily deleted, but many slip through the cracks. The entry has been edited to include a wider range of notability in terms of media contributions and awards. There is still work to do in terms of the visual art research. I cannot find anything relating to his paintings or photography other than the Futurehaus CD-ROM Northamerican 00:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
