Shawntel Smith was Miss America in 1996. She was born on September 16, 1971 in Muldrow, Oklahoma.

In mid-1997 was invited to the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, by the Alumni Association of Oklahoma City University in Malaysia[1] for a charity performance in aid of the Spastic Children Association of Federal Territory and Selangor. The American Embassy in Kuala Lumpur hosted a dinner in her honour for the American Expatriates.
Shawntel is the executive vice president of administration of PBH Holdings, a corporation comprised of the leading companies in the handheld technology solutions industries, which include PalmGear.com and Power by Hand. She continues to speak nationally at educational institutions, non-profit organizations, major events and more. She and her husband Ryan Wuerch have four sons—Braden, Barrett, Brennan, and Bryson.
