Shaul Bakhash

Shaul Bakhash (in Persian: شائول بخاش) is a reigning doyen of Persian studies at George Mason University where he is Clarence J. Robinson Professor of History.
Bakhash is Jewish and was born in Iraq. Later emigrated to Iran and obtained Iranian citizenship under the Shah's government. He is a former Guggenheim Fellow as well as a fellow at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study in New Jersey. He received his M.A. from Harvard University and his D. Phil from Oxford University.
His publications are numerous and focus on Iran and its history and politics. He serves on the Board of Advisory Editors of The Middle East Journal.
He is married to the Iranian American Middle East studies scholar Haleh Esfandiari.
