Shashti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shashti (Sanskrit: Ṣaṣṭhī ) is a Hindu folk-goddess and protectress of children. She is sometimes regarded as an aspect of Durga, who is worshipped on the sixth day after the birth of a child. She is also called Skandamātā (meaning "mother of Skanda") and is worshipped by Bengali women desiring offspring. The cat (mārjāra) is her vahana (mount). She carries a child and her colour is yellow. Shasti appears to have merged with the goddess Śrī (Lakṣmi). [1]
