Sharan Burrow

Sharan Burrow (b. 12 December, 1954 in Warren, New South Wales) is the president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions^[1]. She is the second woman to become president of the ACTU.

Born to a family with strong trade union involvement, Burrow became a teacher in the early 1980s, which allowed her to become involved in the New South Wales Teachers Federation. She later became president of the Bathurst Trades and Labor Council. Before becoming ACTU president she was also president of the Australian Education Union (AEU) in 1992. Currently she also holds a position in the International Labour Organisation (ILO)^[1] as well as the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), having been elected its first female president in 2004. ^[1].
