Shahrazad Ali
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shahrazad Ali (April 27, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, USA) is a Nobel Prize-nominated African-American author, responsible for books such as The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman [sic], Are You Still A Slave? and How Not to Eat Pork (Or Life without the Pig), all of which are heavily influenced by her belief in Faradian Islam and membership in the Nation of Islam, which owns the company that publishes her books: Civilized Publications. She is at the forefront of what scholars call reactionary Black nationalism and has come under heavy criticism for her scholarship, despite flaunting her insight and research into human relationships, and her belief that a man has the right to discipline a woman—going as far as slapping her on the mouth—no matter how strong or liberated she is. Ali has appeared on many talk shows in the United States, where she defends her beliefs and her controversial books. Nothing is known about her childhood or how she developed her beliefs. Her daughter is the author of a blog (www.pamalicious.com).
