[edit] History

In June 1942, Dr Abbas Ekrami opened the poetry book Divan-e Hafez and saw the following line:

Persian: در هوا چند معلق زنی و جلوه کنی ای کبوتر نگران باش که شاهین آمد

which says: In the air, you will rotate a few times with glory; oh pigeon, be worried, Falcon is on its way.

so based on this line he named the club Shahin which means falcon. Shahin became a prominent club in Iran and formed other teams for its sub-clubs Oghab F.C., Shahbaz F.C., Darius F.C., Simorgh F.C., Atom F.C., and Pirooz F.C.. [1]

The club also produced many recognized Iranian players such as Masoud Boroumand, Homayoun Behzadi and Mehrab Shahrokhi.

Due to financial problems, Shahin Club closed in 1966 and in 1967 a new team formed called Paykan Tehran FC. It then, in 1968, formed another new club called Persepolis FC. In 1970s Shahin Club decided to come back but returned with the name of its former third team Shahbaz FC and participated in Takht-e-Jamshid Professional Soccer League. In 1979 due to Islamic Revolution the club was renamed to its original name, Shahin, which existed until the early 1990s.
