Shahi is located at 28.55° N 79.32° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 171 metres (561 feet). The town is on the banks of the Gaula River.

As of 2001 India census[2], Shahi had a population of 13,898. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Shahi has an average literacy rate of 26%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 32%, and female literacy is 19%. In Shahi, 22% of the population is under 6 years of age.
