Located in Derwood, Maryland, but mostly in the area of Gaithersburg, Shady Grove is a Washington Metro station in Montgomery County on the Red Line. It is the northwestern terminus of the Red Line.
Shady Grove serves the cities of Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland, as well as northwest Montgomery County, Frederick County and points north. It is located at Redland Road near Frederick Road, at the end of Interstate 370. Service began on July 25, 1984.
This station was the site of the Washington Metro's second fatal accident, which occurred in 1996. One person was killed. See 1996 Gaithersburg Metrorail Accident for more information.
