A Shadowknight is an EverQuest class similar to the Dungeons and Dragons Antipaladin.
A shadowknight is generally regarded as an evil class and can only be played by neutral and evil races. The class is a mix between the Warrior class and Necromancer class. The shadowknight is regarded as a "tank" class, meaning it is designed to take the damage in groups. A shadowknight is not as physically strong as a warrior but has many spells at his arsenal. A few examples would be that he is able to instill fear in his opponent causing them to run away in terror, drain his life, (this is referred to as "lifetapping"), slow his rate of movement, and is able to trick enemies into believing that he is dead (referred to as "feigning death"). They also have the necromantic ability to summon skeletons at higher levels, among many other skills. Shadowknights gain level one Necromancer spells at level eleven or so, and are therefore weaker in magic than the average necromancer. The combination of physical prowess and necromantic spells make them a force to be reckoned with.
Shadowknights are known in other role playing games, though not as an official class. Bands of "shadowknights" on Ultima Online are rare but existent. A guild of shadowknights exist on UOGamers: Hybrid, but are on the side of good; this may be a matter of confusion on the guildmaster's part.
