1969 photograph of Sharon Tate. Photograph taken at her home shortly before her murder in August 1969, was one of several developed from a roll of film found in her camera after her death.

This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. The screenshot is intended to represent Tate in a candid shot. This is important because most photographs published of her are professional photographs of her at work. A photograph showing her pregnant is important as she was eight months pregnant when murdered, and this is seen as one of the most shocking aspects of an already shocking crime. It further illustrates the point made in the article about her killer saying he did not notice she was pregnant. The photograph depicts her as she looked when she died - she was murdered wearing only her underwear, and in the photograph she is wearing a bikini. ie she looks just as she did when murdered, and is obviously pregnant.

Images whose copyright are held by The Estate of Sharon Tate/Debra Tate are readily available on numerous websites. Tate's official site says "Sharon Tate's name, image, likeness, signature and voice is controlled by Debra Tate. Please contact us if you feel there's misuse of Sharon Tate's image. Misuse would be: other sites profiting from Sharon's image or displaying her in such a way that would be offensive to Sharon's family, friends and fans."

The use of the image is for informational purposes only, is of a low resolution, and does not detract from the original. Its use is not for profit and is not considered to be offensive as per the policy as stated above, however this particular image is not displayed on the official site. Therefore by the definition of "misuse" provided by Sharon Tate's official site, use on Wikipedia should not be defined as "misuse".
