San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, western part, view east from The Embarcadero.
This double suspension bridge portion has recently undergone extensive seismic retrofit:
- Almost all of the original hot rivets have been replaced with high strength bolts
- Criss-cross minor stiffeners have been replaced with steel plate.
- Additional diagonal reenforcement has been added under the decks.
- Some large concrete supports have been strengthened with additional reenforcing bar and a layer of concrete.
