Sevvapet road is one of the oldest railway stations laid in the suburbs of the southern Indian city of Madras, now Chennai. Until recently it used to be a separate village but now it falls under the Chennai city limits. Its nearest town is Thiruvallur.

It has two villages on either side of the railway track. The village on the northern side of the station is named Tirur which established the first co-operative society in India. The village is administered by a Village Admistrative Officer.

There is Agriculture Research Station and Teachers Training Institution(Govt.) nearby Tirur village.

This village has one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiva which was built during the pandavas and pallavas reign. The village also has an Amman temple. There is a church as well as a mosque.

There is a man made canal dug for the Telugu Ganga project in this village. This village has some of the most fertile lands ideal for growing cotton but water is not that abundant. There is a raise in water scarcity problem in recent years.

There is a brewery which was up and running in the year 2004, which employs a huge number of people in the village. There is a brick kiln as well which employs a good amount of locals.

The population of the village increased highly in the last decade due to migration from other nearby villages as a result of the Housing Boarding scheme.
