Seven Oaks (ISSN 1710-3061) is an online political magazine based in Vancouver, Canada. It was founded by four activists and journalists, and launched its first issue February 21, 2004. Three of its founders are former editors of the Peak, the Simon Fraser University student newspaper. The magazine's title comes from the Battle of Seven Oaks (1816), recognized as the birth of the Métis Nation.
The magazine provides analysis, commentary and coverage of current events and issues in politics and culture. "Seven Oaks magazine is a publication which stands outside the realm of false consensus, in unapologetic alliance with those in this country and around the world dedicated to social justice, world peace, gender and racial equality, as well as equality of language rights, self-determination, environmental sustainability, and the celebration of cultural achievement and critical thought," the magazine's manifesto states.
Seven Oaks's founding editors are Charles Demers, Stephen Hui, Derrick O'Keefe and Ian Rocksborough-Smith. The online publication has featured the work of writers in several countries, including Wayde Compton, Judy Rebick, George Fetherling, David Bacon, Tariq Ali, the artwork of Carel Moiseiwitsch, and has featured interviews with filmmaker John Sayles, Svend Robinson, Jayson Blair and many others.
