SeriousSnowman is the 'father' of all the snowmen. He is easily distinguishible from other snowmen because he doesn't wear a smile made of coal.

SeriousSnowman is the 'father' of the snowmen. He was the first to free himself of the false smile made of coal that was forced upon him at his birth. By removing his smile he was then able to distinguish himself from all others. His first step was to lay out a strict code by which new 'creations of the snow' could be 'born' into the snowman society. He didn't feel that just any pile of snow should be considered to be a snowman. From that time forward all new 'creations of the snow' were to be compared to the guidelines set forth by SeriousSnowman and either deemed worthy of joining the snowmen or declared as an abomination. Any new creation that is deemed worthy of joining the snowmen is brought to a secret location known only to 'born' snowmen. Here the new snowman will learn the teachings of SeriousSnowman, and if the new snowman is able learn the teachings and pass every trial that he is presented with, a birthing ceremony will be held in the new snowman's honor. At the ceremony the new snowman will meet SeriousSnowman for the first time. SeriousSnowman will declare the new snowman to be officially 'born' and will name the new snowman based upon the snowman's performance during his teachings. At end of the ceremony the new snowman will be imbued with SeriousSnowman's final teaching, the ability to resist melting. As long as the snowman remains in the trust of SeriousSnowman he will be able to keep this final teaching and never again worry about being melted away. On the other hand, the guidlines state that if a 'creation of the snow' is compared to SeriousSnowman's guidelines and found to be an abomination it is to be left where it was found and to never be contacted again by any snowman. The repercussion for a snowman to be seen with any abomination is severe, in most cases the snowman seen with the abomination is exiled from the snowmen and is declared as an abomination himself. This means that he will now melt as an abomination without SeriousSnowman's protection. But there are occasions when SeriousSnowman personally orders the immediate destruction of an abomination. No snowman knows why SeriousSnowman orders some abominations to be destroyed while others are left to melt in peace.
