Thank you for uploading Image:AmhaSelassie.gif. Please leave a note on that page about the source of the image because of copyright law. Thank you. --Ellmist 01:51, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Selam Sendeq, I want to thank you for your valuable contributions.

I assume those were your anons I have been edit warring with on His and Her Majesties' articles; instead of edit warring I propose we discuss the nature of the available evidence on the discussion pages. As you can tell, I am a little skeptical of these revelations, that is why I would wish to see something more convincing, like a reference made by either of them to children by another party. I have His Majesty's Autobiography, in both Amharic and English, and find it quite incredible that he would make no mention of a previous marriage in his Life Story. On the contrary, he says only that he married Itege "by their own mutual desire" (not pressured into it by Iyasu) when they were age 20. It is only just barely physical possible that one could already have so many children at this age, and in my opinion highly unlikely in this case. As you know, both were devout Orthodox, neither was likely to contract semanya, and at any rate third or fourth marriages are outright proscribed in the Fitha Negest. I have a strong feeling that whoever your sources are, is making some sort of attempt to sully their reputation, we heard much of this kind of thing both from the fascists and again from Castro's agents in the 70's.

On another topic, I am very happy to see your additions to Addis Ababa and was wondering if you could say something about who the newly elected mayor is. I have tried to use this article as the general basis for this translation, but we could really use your participation and expertise on that entire project, so come on over! (አማርኛ እንደቻሉ በመገመት)

With regards, Codex Sinaiticus

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Makonnen.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Makonnen.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesiontalk 09:29, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Paulos.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Paulos.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

[edit] License tagging for Image:Rwandacrest.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Rwandacrest.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:AmhaSelassie.gif listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:AmhaSelassie.gif has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it, but use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Thatcher131 01:01, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ethiopian Royalty

The following are/were recipients of the Order of St Olav per this page:

  • Field Marshal HIH Meridazmatch Asfa Wosen Haile Sellassie, Crown Prince of Ethiopia, 1956
  • HIH Princess Tenagne Work, 1956
  • HIH Crown Princess Medfariash Work, 1956
  • HH Ras Imru Haile Selassie, 1956
  • Lieutenant-General HE Lij Abiye Abebe, the President of the Senate, 1956
  • HRH Prince Alexander Desta, 1959

I have only been able to identify Princess Medfariash Work and Princess Tenagne Work. Who are the others and are they still alive? Do we have wikipedia articles on them as well as Princess Tenagnework and Empress Medferiashwork Abebe? Thank you. Inge 14:46, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Abune Tewophilos

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Abune Tewophilos, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Addhoc 15:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I removed this proposal, as a patriarch of Ethiopia strikes me as obviously notable, but sources still need to be added. Pharamond 08:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Rwandacrest.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Rwandacrest.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
