Talk:Senior Airman

[edit] When did "Sergeant" actually come into being?
Previously, from 1947 to 1952, and from 1967 to 1991, the rank of sergeant was an NCO rank in the USAF.
Are you sure about this? My uncle was in the AF not long after it became an independent service, and he said back then a three-striper was an Airman First Class, with lower ranks being Airman Second Class (two stripes) and Airman Third Class (one). However, a former boss of mine who was an MSGT and then got a commission said during his era (Vietnam) the ranks went from Airman (one), Airman 1st Class (two), Sergeant (three), Staff Sergeant (four), and so on.--MarshallStack 16:57, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
