Senior Skip Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Senior Skip Day (or Senior Ditch Day or Senior Cut Day or Grad Skip Day) is a tradition in some American and Canadian high schools where (nearly) the entire senior class will excuse themselves from school on a pre-determined day. Most American school districts generally do not condone the skip day [1] but punishment typically does not occur if the student has not exceeded the limit on unexcused absences. Some schools, however, impose administrative action on any student who has participated in a skip day [2].
The skip day is normally picked close to graduation to give senior students a "day off" prior to entering the periods of final examinations and is usually coordinated with schools in the same district. Some schools have it as the first day following the senior prom, some schools hold it the Friday before or tuesday after Memorial Day, while other schools may have a senior skip day related to the graduation year. For example, graduates for the year 2005 would hold their Senior Skip Day on 05-05-05, or May 5.[citation needed]
