[edit] Dealing with vandalism

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Viridae (talkcontribs)

[edit] Blocked editors and their talk pages

From your question on my talk page: editors that are blocked (indef or otherwise) still have write access to their talk pages. That's how they can communicate to request unblocking, etc. However, this can be abused by the editor and when that happens, the page can be protected from editing. Not something I'd like to do as they're left with no recourse, but it does happen ... - Alison 00:41, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks, Alison, I wasn't aware of that (altough it undoubtly makes sense ... :-) ). I had a bookmark for the user contributions page for Antholog1793 and was surprised to see his revert there. I was going to fix it but you already had done it earlier. -- Semper discipulus 01:11, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re. Vandalism by 69.129.4.58

Hey, thanks for asking about the vandalism by the above IP, Alison pretty must coveed what I would have said (but I was fast asleep at the time!) Basically, users or IP's should have received a final warning within 24 hours and then proceeded to vandalise after the final warning was given, that's why I removed you report. Blocks are only issued as a protective measure for the encyclopedia. Hope that clears it up, and keep up the good work Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 10:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: vandalism warning template

Ah yes, that template would be {{non-admin fwarn}}. It's useful for warning wandals that they've been reported. Just use that at a talk page when reporting to WP:AIV. --[[User:PieMan360 | UserPage Talk about me!]] 17:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Answering machine 1955.JPG

Hello, Semper discipulus. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Answering machine 1955.JPG) was found at the following location: User:Semper discipulus. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 03:57, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
