Sekgopi Smith Monyatsi was born on the 26 June 1980 in Francistown, Botswana[1][2]. He is the last born son to the late Mr. Monyatsi Nkile Makobo of Nshakashogwe village and Mrs Tanyala Simon-Monyatsi who originates from Marapong village. He belongs to a Botswana ethnic tribe called Bakalanga [3], a tribe which was at the receiving end of tribalism[4] prior to the birth of The Republic of Botswana under the leadership of Sir Seretse Khama.This tribe is rich in African culture just like any other existing ethnic Setswana and Non-Setswana speaking tribes with in the Republic[5].


[edit] Academic Struggle

Mr. Monyatsi pursued his elementary education at Nshakashogwe Primary school and headed to Shangano Junior Secondary School[6] for a two year Junior Certificate.Having done succesfully at junior certificate, he was enrolled for GCSE at McConnell College[7] in 1997 where he grduated in 1999 with a first class.

The year 2000 a saw confusion in the educational arena with the radical changes brought about by the then Vice President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama who happens to be a retired Army General.One of such changes included the abolition of 'Tirelo Sechaba'[8][9], a one year compulsory national service immediately after GCSE.Consequently, competition for admission at the University of Botswana[10] became fierce since there were two batches of school leavers who were eager to be admitted for tertiary education. Mr. Monyatsi was among the lucky ones who were admitted for the natural sciences degree program at the university. Due to other circumstances, he decided to divert for a Geomatics[11] Diploma program after the elapse of one year, a two-year program he completed in 2003.


[edit] Continued Technical and Professional Development

Mr. Monyatsi was first appointed by Tawana Land Board[12] in 2003 as a Technical Oficer.

After a year and half, the officer was transferred to the the Department of Surveys an Mapping[13]with the same position. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Technical Officer (Photogrammetry[14])in March 2007.

Mr. Monyatsi is looking forward to being a corporate executive in the not so distant future. To prove his seriouness, he has enrolled for an MBA program with the Management College of Southern Africa[15]. He completed the MBA foundation program in May 2007 and he is currently in the first year of the MBA program.

He is looking forward to investing in the Geospatial Business if all goes well.
