[edit] Contradiction

Contradiction is that current secretary, Nancy Erickson was appointed and this is an elected office according to this article. TonyTheTiger 18:50, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, she was appointed to an elected office. Under the rules of the Senate, the office of Secretary of the Senate is elected (Erickson was elected by S.Res. 8 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.+Res.+8:). However, by agreement of the two parties, the Majority Leader gets to "appoint" the Secretary of the Senate, and the election is mearly ceremonial. meamemg 01:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
