[edit] Biography

[edit] Origins

After numerous collaborations between the group's members (most frequently guest appearances by emcees Sabac, Goretex and Ill Bill on Necro's studio albums and early demos (the latter being Necro's brother), the group was formed as a contemporary project between the four.

All five members of the group had achieved underground success prior to the founding of Secret Society. Necro had been gaining notoriety in the underground hip hop scene since 1991, and by the time the band was founded, was working on his third studio album The Pre-Fix for Death. Ill Bill, Sabac and Goretex, along with their turntablist DJ Eclipse had gained underground fame as hardcore hip hop group Non Phixion, with their critically acclaimed single "I Shot Reagan" in 1998 and their 2002 classic The Future Is Now.

The first member of the group to achieve solo success was Necro. After he recorded an independent EP called Necro in 1998, he decided to continue releasing music independently, and with the intention of extending his distribution options, founded the independent record label Psycho+Logical-Records in November 1999.

In 2000, roughly a year after founding the record label, Necro released his debut I Need Drugs and quickly developed recognition in the underground hip hop scene. The album featured his brother and Non Phixion member Ill Bill on two tracks. Over two years later in 2003, he signed Non Phixion members Goretex and Sabac to Psycho+Logical-, as well as produced both they and Ill Bill's then-upcoming albums. Necro would also be featured as a guest vocalist on all three of the artist's records. By 2005, the only song released by any of the solo artists or Non Phixion to feature all five of Secret Society's members, prior to the group's physical formation, was the title track of Non Phixion's 2002 album The Future Is Now. July 4, 2005 would see the debut of the group; a song titled "The World Is Gore" featured on Necro and Ill Bill's mixtape Street Villains Vol. 2 marked the first credit to the group by name. A Psycho+Logical-Records sampler featuring the song, released in September 2005, also revealed that Secret Society's upcoming self-titled debut album would be released on October 25, 2007. The record ultimately failed to meet this scheduled release date.

[edit] Current status

The group's self-titled debut album has been complete for nearly three years, but has been delayed twice for reasons unknown, although it may be related to Non Phixion disbanding in July 2006 due to Goretex's "unreliability" and "lack of interest", and the fact that he has since severed ties with its members and possibly even Necro. However the album is currently being promoted on Necro's MySpace profile as, "a whole album revolving around the Illuminati, aliens, and conspiracy," much like Non Phixion's unique subject matter such as government conspiracies, secret assassinations and alien cover-ups. It is also unknown at this time whether or not the group's only released track , "The World Is Gore", will appear on the album.
