Second Chance Trees

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Second Chance Trees is an island in Second Life, an online virtual world. The island has been created in an effort to aid tree reforestation in Brazil, Costa Rica, and other endangered rainforest areas. Second Chance Trees is designed to replicate real rainforest fauna and wildlife. Visitors to the island can learn about the planet’s endangered rainforests while exploring hidden caves, riding along the river, or just taking in the amazing sights.

Converseon Inc., a social media communcations agency in New York, created Second Chance Trees in an effort to stop deforestation and alternately encourage the replanting of lost trees. Converseon is working closely with Plant-It 2020, a nonprofit foundation started by late singer John Denver dedicated to properly planting, maintaining and protecting as many indigenous trees as possible worldwide.

Purchase of a tree is $L300 Linden Dollars, which is equivalent to a little over $1 US. All proceeds go to the planting of 10 types of endangered trees from around the world.
