The Towson-Bypass is a semicircular, 6+ lane, divided road that begins at Fairmount Avenue in Towson. It runs around the western side of Towson's central business district, with the purpose of being an alternate route to the congested York Road through the Towson area. Parts of the road are also known as Bosley Avenue.

After passing York Road, the name of the Towson Bypass changes to Burke Avenue. Burke Avenue is a two-lane, completely residential street, lined with middle-class single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.

Burke Avenue continues until it reaches Putty Hill Avenue. The final few blocks are known as Hillen Road.

[edit] Putty Hill Avenue

Putty Hill Avenue begins one block prior to Goucher Boulevard, and continues for approximately 4¼ miles up until Walther Boulevard. At this point, going straight would bring the motorist onto Rossville Boulevard. But a left onto Walther, followed by the next right, would bring the motorist to an older section of Putty Hill Avenue, which continues a few blocks parallel to Rossville, and after Belair Road, changes into Ridge Road.

[edit] Rossville Boulevard

Rossville Boulevard begins at Walther Boulevard as a continuation of Putty Hill. It continues for approximately 4¾ miles to Essex, where it ends at a split. A left at this split would bring the motorist onto Stemmers Run Road, and a right onto Mace Avenue. Both these streets eventually lead to Eastern Avenue.

Rossville Boulevard, throughout its length, varies in number of traffic lanes from one to three in each direction. Some parts of the route have a median; others are divided simply by a double yellow line.
