{{help me}} I'm having trouble fixing a reference cite error on the page I edited, "Bugs Hardaway".

Hello, Seattlechef. The problem is that you haven't defined any reference called "Barrier". In order to get a reference to appear multiple times, as you're trying to do, you need to first provide a reference to be named, like this:

This is a sentence. <ref name="Barrier">[www.example.com Here is the link to your reference]</ref>
This is another sentence. <ref name="Barrier"/> Now I've just called that reference a second time.

{{helpme}} Thanks for the help, the distinction that I'm trying to illustrate is that it was the Hardaway drawing that came to be known around the Termite Terrace as Bugs' Bunny,. The Encyclopedia Britannica reference clearly states that it was Hardaway's drawing. Thanks for your patience, I'm learning.

Okay, I understand, I was confused about that distinction myself, and I like the way you incorporated it in your latest edit. I'm assuming this message is in response to me. When you write messages on any talk page, including your own, you should sign the message at the end by typing in four tildes ( ~~~~ )so everyone can see the message is from you. [edit] Copyright violation and plagiarism

Hi, I have recently noticed your edits to the Bugs Bunny page. I appreciate your efforts at helping the encyclopedia and your addition of new references and sources. However, when you add in information obtained from a different website or other publication, you MUST NOT simply copy and paste the sentences from the other website into Wikipedia without express permission from the author to do so. Otherwise this is a copyright violation and must be removed from Wikipedia immediately. Look over the information on the website and then put it in your own words when adding it to Wikipedia. It's very much appreciated to add in new references like the Encyclopedia Brittanica one you added to Bugs Bunny, but you have to put the information in your own words.

This edit you made ([1]) is an example of how you changed the wording around to a copy and paste where the original wording is just as good and not a copyright violation. And if you notice, the reference you added in was not deleted, it was kept (see this edit: [2]). The other editor kept in the reference you added but simply put it after the relevant sentence which was not copy and pasted.

Hi again, I noticed you made another copy and paste into Bugs in this edit ([3]) so I made an edit to reword it ([4]). Also notice that I expanded the reference information from just a bare link; it's nice to take the time to put full information into a reference instead of just the bare link. There are easy to use templates you can use to do this fast and easy. I used the Template:Cite journal template for that reference since it was from a magazine. Here are some other common templates you can use when citing references: Template:Citation (all purpose template), Template:Cite web, Template:Cite news, Template:Cite book, Template:Cite encyclopedia. Here is a list of all the citation templates you can use: Category:Citation templates. It's not mandatory to use citation templates but it is very helpful to add full reference information when you cite references so the templates simply make it easier to do that and make it so the references are in a consistent format. To use the templates when citing sources the format will look like this: <ref>{{citation|REFERENCE INFO}}</ref> (notice the format I used in my edit: [5]). I hope this helps. Adding in referenced information with complete references is one of the most helpful things you can do for Wikipedia so your help is much appreciated. Just remember to incorporate the information in your own words. Of course it is perfectly acceptable to put a quote from someone into an article, just make sure to put it in quotes and provide a source for the quote. Cheers.
