sean farrell, Birmingham born (1971) poet / writer. Won POET OF THE YEAR 2001 - 2002 At the age of 29, (Now 36) Sean Farrell of Birmingham, had his work discovered by a friend on a chance visit. After reading his portfolio, it was quickly recognised that he had a rare talent and his material quickly found itself in front of Marcus Moore, host of the Birmingham Readers & Writers Festival.
Despite having had no academic training or experience in this genre - Sean Farrell won Birmingham Poet Of Year - in the face of competition from 40 established artists.
Intensive press coverage followed, including an 8 week slot - entitled 'Poetry Corner' - on the Cable Channel 'Front Room TV', as well as regular news features on Live TV and various newspaper/radio interviews .
Subsequently, Sean was invited to teach creative writing at Bournville College and to act as a mentor to up and coming poets through localised national groups.
Within a month of acheiving his accreditation, his reputation was becoming widespread with approaches from both the BBC and Talkback Productions to submit ideas and material for future sitcoms and current affairs programmes.
Within 6 months, Sean was invited to perform his poetry alongside Spike Milligan at the Custard Factory, Birmingham, at an event sponsoring The World Mental Health Trust.
As a result of his quick found success, Sean was considered a worthy entrant into the Cheltenham Literary Festival - International Poetry Competition. He won the title of "National Poet Of the Year" - shocking the remaining 80 entrants and an audience of 700 peers.
Subsequently, he has made guest appearances at the Glee Club, Jongleurs, Oldbury Theatre, Crescent Theatre, Midlands Art Centre, The Drum, Nottingham Rep, Swindon Theatre & Birmingham Arts Festival.
He has also produced commissioned material for Birmingham City Council, Mackenzie Thorpe (artist), The Samaritans, as well a personal submissions for friends and family.Zooook (talk) 15:03, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
