Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute

Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute, the research division of Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center (Seattle), was established in 2006.[1] Children’s research campus encompasses nearly two adjacent city blocks with a total of 1.5 million developable square feet in downtown Seattle, near the heart of one of the nation’s most advanced biotechnology districts.[2] Between 2003 and 2005, Children's nearly doubled its annual grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).[3] Children's research institute has 305 staff members, including 150 principal investigators focusing on infectious disease, cancer, immunology and many other areas.[4]
Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute is organized into interdisciplinary research centers:
- Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development
- Center for Childhood Cancer (FHCRC)
- Center for Childhood Infections and Prematurity Research
- Center for Clinical and Translational Research
- Center for Developmental Therapeutics
- Center for Genetics and Development (UW)
- Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies
- Center for Neuroscience
- Center for Tissue and Cell Sciences
In 2004, the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics was established and became the first bioethics program in the United States to focus on pediatrics issues with a broad mission of research, consultation, education and training. [5]
