[edit] Story

Sean Matsuda was born in Brazil, though his paternal grandfather was Japanese. A keen basketball player, his main pastime is martial arts. Sean saw veteran World Warrior Ken Masters in action at the US Masters Martial Arts Tournament and swore to become his pupil. Ken initially rejected Sean's numerous attempts to impress him, however when Sean told him that he was planning to enter the upcoming third World Warriors tournament, he allowed Sean to train with him. During the tournament, Sean lost to Ken himself. Despite his skill, he lacked the discipline and experience necessary to become a true street fighter. He declined Ken's offer of the US Masters trophy in acknowledgment of how well he had done, insisting that he would win it himself some day. He continues to train under Ken alongside Ken's son, Mel.

[edit] Appearance

Sean wears a yellow gi, similar to those worn by Ryu and Ken but with the sleeves removed at the shoulders, and red fighting gloves. He wears a black belt and fights barefoot. He has dreadlocks with the sides shaved off and usually brings a basketball with him everywhere.

[edit] Gameplay

Sean is often referred to as the "Dan Hibiki" of Street Fighter III since they both use modified versions of Ryu and Ken's traditional Ansatsuken techniques. However, this comparison is questionable, as Dan is an intentionally ineffective joke character, whereas Sean is considered a difficult to use, but nonetheless effective character. Sean was intended to be the only Ansatuken fighter in the game until Capcom decided that Ryu and Ken were too popular to exclude.[1]

In 2nd Impact, Sean can link/combo his 3rd Super Art after some of his special moves. Though the super will do less damage, it will add a small amount of Stun to the opponent's Stun gauge. He was, in fact, considered to be one of the most powerful characters in the game.

In 3rd Strike some of his moves, most notably his anti-air uppercut (Dragon Smash), were toned down in effectiveness. His overhead heel kick (Ryubi Kyaku) no longer paused before execution though, making it much more useful. Also in this third iteration, Sean was given many new standard attacks and two of his special moves were changed to feature all-new animation frames. Due to these changes, Sean became the worst character in the game.

Sean has a cameo appearance in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, showing up alongside Ken in Ryu's introduction and ending.
