Seán McCarthy (born 1 January 1937) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A physician before entering politics, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann for the Tipperary South constituency in a 1981 general election.[1] He was re-elected at each subsequent election until he lost his seat at the 1989 general election.[2] He was elected to Seanad Éireann by the Agricultural Panel in the following Seanad election. He unsuccessfully contested the 1989 general election for both the Dáil and Seanad. He served as Minister of State at the Department of Industry & Commerce from 1987–89.[1] Since 1999 he has been a member of South Tipperary County Council for the Cashel electoral area and also a member of Cashel Urban District Council.[2]
