Scutellaria barbata is a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Other names include ban zhi lian (Chinese: 半枝莲; pinyin: bànzhīlián), scullcap or skullcap, barbat skullcap, skute barbata, or herba scutellariae barbatae.

A substance with potential antineoplastic activity has been isolated from the plant. Herba scutellariae barbatae containing the antioxidant flavonoid, scutellarin, has been shown to induce apoptosis of ovarian and breast tumor cells in vitro. (NCI Thesaurus)

Good for sleep. Often used in herbal sleeping remedies.

It is a nervous restorative and can be used to alleviate anxiety, migraines, and depression.[1]
