[edit] Cleanup
I've done a substantial cleanup job organizing and revising without adding much new information. I made an effort to convert the article to UK spelling and punctuation thruout and to wikify more terms (altho I'm unsure of the UK term "squat"). I excised a fair amount of gushing, but it still reads more like a music magazine retrospective than an encyclopedia entry. Also, the article needs a better description of Gartside's health problems and the band's subsequent breakup. And it really needs a picture. --Tysto 02:11, 2005 August 2 (UTC)
I noticed that the opening had become complicated again. The first sentence should explain what its subject is very simply for those who have never heard of it. Save the inspiration, origin, and evolution for later sentences. --Tysto 13:49, 2005 August 23 (UTC)
Green's "health problems" as I understand it consisted of a series of anxiety attacks, occasion so severe that he thought he was having a heart attack. Tom Morley, who is a friend of a friend, has also said that Green was prone to fly into rages.
"Squat" is quite a universal term in English, so no problems there.
I would suggest you amend "previously hidden reggae influence", because the band's first single "skank bloc bologna" was strongly reggae influenced, "skank" being used in the Jamaican sense of dancing to reggae (and much of the melody being lifted from common reggae tunes of the era).
You could e-mail Rough Trade and ask them for a pic, I'm sure they will be happy to oblige.
regards Chris
I removed " and yet Richard D. James has quoted, "I only listen to my music"." because it has absolutely nothing to do with Scritti Politti or anything even remotely related to this article. It is just a random quote by Richard D. James.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Scrittimercury.jpg
Image:Scrittimercury.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
