[edit] Same principle as polarizing sunglasses??? I don't think so?

Could we get a reference for that 'fact' or remove it? *As far as I know*, scrims do not operate in this fashion. They simply block light.

[edit] Limited lifespan for scrims?

Scrims having wire mesh appear to have limited lifespans because they are exposed for prolonged periods of time to very hot light.

Does anybody know if scrims cost more depending on the kind of wire mesh they are equipped with? Does an aluminum mesh cost less than a stainless steel mesh?

Is the lifespan of a typical scrim limited more on account of their fragility (that is, their tendency to get bent up and twisted) than the possibility the very high temperatures cause them to oxidize?

I've never seen a scrim which has had significant problems, despite high hours of usage. They generally tend to be of a fine weave and have no requirements other than to just sit there, so it's difficult to imagine them getting bent, twisted, or just "not working".
