Screen it!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Screen It! is an entertainment review website.

Unlike most entertainment review sites, however, Screen It! is geared towards parents, reviewing a film with the detail that would help parents decide if their child should see a film. When first entering the website, there is a subscription offer, but anyone can use the site for free, although reviews for new films are initially reserved for subscribers.

Screen It! has been available since July 1996, and is run by a husband and wife team. The information on the website is intended to help parents determine which films they will allow their children to see, based on the content in the film. In addition to films, reviews for newly and recently released videos can also be found on the site as well.

Mostly there are only current movies that are reviewed on the website. There is a brief plot summary, the MPAA rating and reasons for it, cast and crew, as well as a link to Internet Movie Database, to find what other people rated the film.

There are fifteen categories in which the movie is reviewed:

  • Alcohol/Drugs
  • Blood/Gore
  • Disrespectful/Bad Attitude
  • Frightening/Tense Scenes
  • Guns/Weapons
  • Imitative Behaviour
  • Jump Scenes
  • Music (Scary/Tense)
  • Music (Inappropriate)
  • Profanity
  • Sex/Nudity
  • Smoking
  • Tense Family Scenes
  • Topics to Talk About
  • Violence.

There is a brief overview of the categories at the top of the movie’s page, with a rating of

  • Extreme,
  • Heavy,
  • Moderate,
  • Mild,
  • Minor or
  • None

under each category. Clicking on the category will jump to the part of the page that lists, in detail, any actions, comments, and situations in the film that are applicable to the respective category, which would help a parent decide whether to permit his child to see the film.
