This colour template for the Scottish Liberal Democrats has recently been changed without discussion, giving different colours for the National party and Scottish one. I feel this change is a bad idea for a number of reasons. All the other national parties have the same colour as their Scottish counterpart now except the Liberal Democrats, creating unnecessary confusion for readers. The orange colour that is now in place in Scotland is the same as that of the Liberal Party (1989) a different party and another source of confusion. When this was discussed previously it was agreed that the national parties colours would have primacy over other parties such as PC and the SNP who have similar shades but were not national. The given reason by the user was that it was too close to the SNP colour, however looking at both colours in use on; Dunfermline and West Fife the difference is readily apparent and as has been agreed previously the Liberal Democrats colour is not the one that should be changed if there is a clash. The colour we use for a party does not have to be the same as the one the party itself uses at any given time, in any particular place. As someone pointed out in another discussion of this sort of topic, a common national colour for a party is quite a recent idea. Certainly historically different colours were used in different constituencies. In my own expereience before 1988 the Liberal Party in Slough had two active ward parties. One used green and the other orange. If, well within living memory and in the same local authority, there was no uniform colour used by a party I do not see that we should emulate the precise shade used by one Liberal Democrat state party (to use party terminology). If this decision stands then we will be using different colours for geographical sub-sets of the same party. This contrasts with the use of the same colour for the pre-1988 Liberal Party, when the Scottish Liberal Party actually had no organisational connection with the Liberal Party in the rest of the UK (except for the Parliamentary party). --Gary J 00:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Do the Scottish Lib Dems have a specific logo- not 100% clear from their website. Thunderwing 13:15, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

The Liberal Democrats have a variant of the ballot paper logo for the Scottish party. The bird is the same but the wording is slightly different. The Welsh party just has the bird, because putting words in both English and Welsh with the logo gets too confusing. I hope that helps. --Gary J 00:24, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
