Can I challenge the assertion that those SLP members who chose to rejoin the Labour Party, rather than the SNP did so "increased likelihood of the rewards of elected office". There is a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the SLP which campaigned for Devolution, not Independence, and was created because of the wavering of the UK Labour Party on this issue. As the Labour Party became clearer in its commitment to Devolution, it could be argued that it would be more natural for supporters of Devolution to return to the Labour Party. Whereas some SLP members who believed in Independence would have wanted to join the SNP.

I recall that several SLP members were refused membership when they first re-applied to the Labour Party, including some of those (such as Maria Fyfe) who went on to office. However I don't have a source document for this.
