[edit] Mitchell, Batch, and the 1998 Season

Regarding 1998, Scott Mitchell was in fine shape. He had a rough early outing, and Bobby Ross pulled the plug. The move backfired, as rookie Charlie Batch was not ready, and the Lions went 5-11. Expectations were too high entering 1998, but Mitchell was not out of shape. The locker room had a lot of tension, player dissension, Ross would retire from the NFL the following year. Barry Sanders retired and other prominent Lions left after 1998, signalling the end of an era.AaronCBurke 01:34, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
