Scottsville is a city in Allen County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 4,327 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Allen County[1].

Scottsville is located at 36°45′5″N, 86°11′34″W (36.751504, -86.192692)[2].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.8 square miles (14.9 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 4,327 people, 1,839 households, and 1,191 families residing in the city. The population density was 749.6 people per square mile (289.5/km²). There were 2,059 housing units at an average density of 356.7/sq mi (137.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.49% White, 3.28% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.

There were 1,839 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% were married couples living together, 15.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 32.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 87.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $24,479, and the median income for a family was $32,284. Males had a median income of $24,821 versus $21,769 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,618. About 16.5% of families and 21.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.2% of those under age 18 and 22.1% of those age 65 or over.

Scottsville is home to a weekly newspaper, the Citizen-Times, which was founded in 1890.A new radio station, WVLE(99.3 FM) recently began broadcasting from Scottsville. The station features a variety of adult contemporary hits from the past three decades, as well as twice daily news segments covering Scottsville and the rest of Allen County.
