[edit] Storyline
Scott meets Charlene in 1986 when he mistakes her for an intruder at his neighbour Madge Ramsay's house. It turns out that Charlene is Madge's daughter, who has just arrived from Queensland. After an initial rocky start, the two fall in love, and even though they face the respective oppositon of their two families (The Ramsays and the Robinsons had been feuding for years), the two are married in 1987.
The wedding (episode 523) is first broadcast in Australia on July 1, 1987, and in the UK on November 8, 1988. The ballad "Suddenly" by Angry Anderson, which is played over the ceremony, was actually chosen by Minogue as the song to be played at 'her' own wedding.
[edit] Impact
The couple were hugely popular with Neighbours fans in both the United Kingdom and Australia, helping the show to gain high ratings after an initial rocky start.[1] Kylie Minogue later went on to have a hugely successful singing career after leaving the show in 1988. Jason Donovan followed suit the following year in 1989.
In the storyline, twenty years after their wedding, Scott and Charlene are still together. They have two children, Daniel and Madison, and live in Brisbane.
In 1989, British musicians The KLF released their humorous dance single "Kylie Said to Jason", which also refers to Angry Anderson singing "Suddenly".
In 2007, Charlene and Scott were both parodied as puppets in The Spencer Show promoting Uk Pop artist Spencer. "Charlene Boomerang" and "Scott Waterman" both appeared in two of Spencer's music videos, "Sun Shines Brighter" and the Stock Aitken Waterman track "She's In Love With You". In December 2007, Charlene and Scott recorded their own track "Two Hearts".
