Scott Bowles is an author and film writer for USA Today. He wrote the book The Needle and the Damage Done, a chronicle of his kidney and pancreas transplant. Much of the book ran in excerpts as a running series for the paper. He was also a contributing author on the book Crime on Deadline, a compilation of crime stories from police reporters across the country.
According to the paper, after the series and book, at least two dozen diabetics underwent the surgery to treat the disease.
At the paper, Bowles works as a film critic and does celebrity profiles, which have included Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and George Clooney.
