Scotchtown, Nova Scotia

Scotchtown (2001 pop.: 1,082) is a community in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality of Nova Scotia, Canada.
The community is located immediately south of New Waterford and dates back to the early 1900's when Irish settlers took command of this area and named the new community Irishtown.
It was the sight of many battles over the years, ending with the Battle of May Street in 1955. A battle that ended with the Scots taking control and renaming the community Scotchtown. The defeated Irish fled the area, migrating to what is now known as New Victoria.
