Schizophonic is an album from guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, known for being the guitarist in the band Extreme. Bettencourt is credited on the cover simply as "Nuno". The album was released in 1997, and it was his first - and as of 2007 - only solo effort after the group disbanded.
In face of the then-current musical trends Nuno added an alternative rock edge to his style, Writing with producer Anthony J. Resta known for his work with Duran Duran around their big comeback, the album featured Restas' Enoesque soundscapes on many of the songs. Nuno went on to record two more solo records under the name "Mourning Widows" and then one with "Population 1" and yet another with the Drama Gods. The album was recorded over a stretch of time during Extreme's tour for their last studio album, Waiting for the Punchline.
Nuno wrote most of the songs and played most of the instruments on the album, except for "You", on which vocals are shared with co-author and former bandmate Gary Cherone. The album cover featured Nuno dressed as a woman.
