Talk:Sceptre of Annúminas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"By the end of the Third Age, the Sceptre of Annúminas was over 5,000 years old and was the oldest artifact of Men in Middle-earth."

This cannot be correct; the Ring of Barahir must be far older. It is, of course, not man-made, yet still a human artifact, thereby fullfilling the criteria for being the "oldest artifact of Men in Middle-Earth". So perhaps the wording should be changed? Any thoughts on this? --Hallonboat 20:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Yep I'd agree - maybe the wording should be changed to the Sceptre being "the oldesr artifact wrought by Men", with a link to the Ring of Barahir as "the oldest artifact held by Men"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.92.40.49 (talk) 10:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

No, the Ring of Barahir is an artifact of the Eldar, howeverlong it has been in the keeping pf the Edain as a token of their friendship with the elves. Let the statement, which originates with Tolkien's own notes, stand. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.213.146.172 (talk) 06:23, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
