SBU TV, standing for Stony Brook University Television, is a student-run, student-operated closed-circuit television station at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Founded in 2000, SBU TV was created to serve the Stony Brook community by providing news and entertainment programming as well as giving students opportunity for hands-on access to professional television equipment and television professionals. Students who have worked at SBU TV have gone on to be employed by various television stations including MTV, Lime (TV), News 12 and Fox 5. The station is funded by Stony Brook University's Undergraduate Student Government. The website is http://www.ic.sunysb.edu/clubs/sbutv/
3TV, the precursor to SBU TV, was formed in the mid-90s as a way to televise the goings-on of Stony Brook University's student government, the Student Polity Association. 3TV was ultimately shut down in the late 90s, possibly as a result of the airing of copyrighted material. After lengthy negotiations, it was reborn as SBU TV in April 2000 under new management. All this occurred after three students, David Seader, Leonid Borovskiy, and Adeel Rahman, met, and decided to try and convert the "closet" that was 3TV, into a fully functional television station. http://dspace.sunyconnect.suny.edu/bitstream/1951/28896/1/Statesman,%20V.%2045,%20n.%2009.pdf
